Dr. Ashim Kumar | Board Certified Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist
Dr. Kumar is board certified in reproductive endocrinology and obstetrics and gynecology and practices near Los Angeles, California. In recent years Dr. Kumar has focused his efforts for those that have had difficulty conceiving and require third party reproduction (egg donor and/or gestational surrogacy). Over half of his current patients are from overseas which include Australia, Austria, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, The United Kingdom, etc. Combining meticulous attention to detail, 7-day a week work ethic, the best support staff (nursing & embryology) and the latest in technology, he is able to obtain the highest pregnancy rates achievable today. He has been asked to present his work across the world including Australia, India, China, and Italy and has contacts in numerous clinics that collaborate closely to provide seamless care.
He completed his fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility through a combined program that allowed him to work with world-renowned leaders in the field at both University of California Los Angeles and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Kumar completed his medical education and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Kumar has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals on endocrine and surgical aspects of infertility and has presented his work at the annual meeting of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. He serves as an ad hoc reviewer for the journal Fertility and Sterility. Dr. Kumar has written several textbook chapters on management of tubal factor infertility and ovarian function including premature ovarian failure, and has a special interest in hormonal and functional causes of infertility such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), tubal disorders, male factor infertility, and third party (donor/surrogate) reproduction. He is also a member of the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society and American Society for Reproductive Medicine.
Yufen Xie, M.D., PhD, ELD (ABB),HCLD (ABB) | IVF Lab Director
Dr. Yufen Xie is a Certified Embryology Lab Director at Western Fertility Institute. She is responsible for the daily operations of the embryology lab, including blastocyst vitrification, ICSI and embryo biopsy. Her greatest desire is to help people achieve their dream of having children. She received her medical degree (M.D) and OB/GYN residency at the Zhong Shan University, School of Medicine in China, followed by her PhD degree in Medical Genetics at Essen University, School of Medicine in Germany. Dr. Yufen Xie completed her postdoctoral Fellowship in the Embryo and Stem Cell Research Laboratory at the Wayne State University in Michigan. She has presented her researches in embryo and stem cell at meetings around the world and has published over 30 papers in the field of reproductive medicine. She is a member of American Association of Bioanalysis.
Hyang (Hailey) Park, M.S. | Embryology Technical Supervisor
Hyang (Hailey) Park, MS is a senior embryologist at Western Fertility Institute. She received her MS degree in biotechnology from the university of Daegu in Korea. She has been involved in human assisted reproductive technologies since 2000. She was trained and served as an embryologist at CHA global organization until 2012. She brings experience, quality and knowledge to the Western Fertility Institute embryology laboratory. She is a member of American Association of Bioanalysts and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. She recognizes that she is blessed to have such a wonderful specialty to help people realize their dream of having a beautiful family.
Samantha Hain, M.S. | Junior Embryologist
Samantha has a Master of Science degree in Biology from California State University, Northridge. She is currently working in our IVF Laboratory as a Junior Embryologist and specializes in genetic and fertility research. Samantha also has the duty of following up with our patients after their 10 week “graduation” to gather data on the outcomes of our embryo transfers and update records. She loves being a part of the Western Fertility Institute’s team, aiding in the amazing work of helping people expand their families, and seeing the joy it brings to our patients.
Loida Raymundo | Laboratory Tech/Compliance Officer/Safety Committee
Loida Raymundo manages both our Endocrine and Andrology (blood and semen analysis) labs at Western Fertility. Prior to joining our team she managed a Cardiology Group Lab for 24 years. Loida also oversees our Regulatory Compliance and serves on our Safety Committee. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. Loida was born in the Philippines and is fluent in Tagalog. She says her favorite part of work is reading and sharing pregnancy results(she is the first to see them). Loida also loves to see our pregnant patients when they come in.
Kathryn Anderson | Laboratory Assistant
Kathryn has Bachelor’s degrees in Integrative Biology and Anthropology from University of California, Berkeley. She is also a certified phlebotomist with 2 years of hospital laboratory experience. Kathryn joined our laboratory team in July 2018, working with our nurses and third party coordinators to ensure patients and donors have met the proper requirements each cycle. An IVF baby herself, Kathryn has always been interested in the field of reproductive health and medicine and is excited to be a part of creating families.
Makayla McGraw | Safety Committee/Notary Public/Laboratory Assistant
Makayla is a part of the IVF Laboratory team, assisting with data entry and inventory control. She is our resident Notary Public and the head of our Safety Committee. She also has her phlebotomy license and often assists with the routine blood draws. She truly is a “Jack of all trades”! Makayla enjoys working with such supportive Laboratory and Office Associates. She loves being on clinical side of the IVF experience and helping to create families as she is a retired egg donor.
Registered Nurse Team
Emma Clink, BSN, RN | IVF Nurse Coordinator
Emma graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from TCU in Fort Worth, Texas. She has had the pleasure of working with the Western Fertility team for over 3 years. Emma enjoys coordinating cycles between intended parents, surrogates, and egg donors. She specializes in working with international and outside monitoring clients. Emma strongly believes that everyone is deserving of a family and Western Fertility can make that dream a reality.
Karla Lemus, BSN, RN | IVF Nurse Coordinator
Karla is a graduate of West Coast University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nursing.
Karla says she is thrilled to be a part of the Western Fertility Institute team and has always enjoyed her work in Obstetrics. She has also worked previously in both operating and emergency rooms. Karla says working in Fertility is a fantastic marriage of all of her favorite disciplines. Her favorite part is being able to go beyond traditional patient/nurse relationships and be a part of something bigger, growing families. Helping patients become parents has become some of Karla’s most remarkable and rewarding work.
Anna Vu, BSN, RN | IVF Nurse Coordinator
Anna received a Bachelor of Arts degree from CSULB in Language and Literacy. She went on to receive her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from Roseman University of Health Sciences. Before joining Western Fertility Institute, Anna worked as a NICU registered nurse. She loved working with the babies and their families, getting to be a part of their amazing journeys was unforgettable and the most amazing blessing. Anna believes that being able to work in the specialty of fertility is such an amazing honor because you get to help individuals from all walks of life in the pursuit their dreams of becoming parents. There is no other specialty in which you build such a strong relationship with your patients and be able to serve them – not only as a medical professional, but also a friend and confidant.
Medical Assistant Team
The Medical Assistant team at Western Fertility Institute is here to make sure your experience is a positive one. Our team is dedicated to providing advanced patient care and patient satisfaction in a safe, nurturing environment.
The MA team assists the physicians in the rooms during exams and procedures. They are also responsible for scheduling follow-up appointments, instructing patients on recommended testing and procedures, handing out patient education materials, giving injections, and calling patients with medication orders.
Quiana Bradley, MA | Clinical Cycle Coordinator
Quiana is a Certified Level 2 Medical Assistant and Clinical Cycle Coordinator. With over 8 years experience in women’s health, she is dedicated to helping families grow one baby at a time; and sometimes two! Quiana works closely with our international patients, surrogates and egg donors. Dedicated to making dreams come true, she enjoys working with our patients very intimately and develop close relationships which sometimes become long lasting friendships. Quiana is our patients’ cheerleader, the “go to” person in whatever they need as they go through the labyrinth of their fertility treatment. She is grateful and humbled to make a difference in people’s lives and seeing them succeed is the most rewarding feeling.
Theresa Martinez, MA | Clinical Cycle Coordinator
Theresa has worked in the medical field since 2006. She has 7 years experience specifically with the fertility field and is now coordinating IVF cycles for our parents to be. Theresa joined the Western Fertility Institute family in 2018 and strongly believes that everybody should have a family. Being a part of beautiful journeys is what motivates her the most, and seeing pictures of the little ones after birth makes her job so rewarding.
Leslie Menendez, MA | Medical Assistant
Leslie joined the WFI team in April 2016. She is a certified Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist. Leslie works along side Dr. Kumar and the IVF staff. Leslie supports patients when they come in for scans and procedures, caring for their needs and listening to any concerns they may have. She enjoys being at the heart of patient daily visits and care. Leslie also is a Senior Egg Donor Program Coordinator, where she is part of the Egg Donor’s Journey from their very first consultation to their egg retrieval. Leslie really enjoys working in the specialty of fertility, where she can make a difference in helping the patient to complete their families.
Jesenia Benavides, MA | Medical Assistant
Jesenia is a certified Medical Assistant and Phlebotomist and assists our patients when they come in for their appointments and procedures. She has joined Western Fertility Institute’s team in 2016 and loves providing care and support. Jesenia always tries to have a smile on and enjoys making a difference in people’s lives. She states it is a privilege to be part of such amazing journeys on a day to day basis.
Third Party Team
Our 3rd Party Coordinators serve as liaisons between the patient and the clinic.
Trudi Atherton | Surrogacy Program Director
Trudi has worked in this field for over 10 years. She enjoys helping others and passionate about what she does. She was previously a surrogate herself and as a third party coordinator, she is very familiar with entire process. She puts herself in patients’ shoes and is compassionate and available to patients and surrogates.
Caitlin Moran | Third Party Program Manager
Caitlin graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Psychology. She oversees our egg donor program and coordinates the matching process. With a dedicated and warm approach, Caitlin guides our intended parents not only in the search for their desired donor, but also assists them with the financial planning of their journeys. Ultimately her goal is making sure all their initial needs are met at the highest level possible. Caitlin’s favorite moments are when the little ones come back to visit with their parents and enjoys the baby cuddles.
Lin Lin | Patient Liaison /Surrogate Coordinator
Lin has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Psychology. Lin is multilingual and assists patients with coordination and translation. Patients depend highly on her effective communication skills, case management, and accessibility.
Vivi Wang | 3rd Party Representative/Patient Coordinator
Vivi has a Master’s Degree in Business & Logistics Engineering. She has worked in the fertility field for several years and is very familiar with the process by helping numerous intended parent in the past. She is multilingual / translator and has great passion and compassion for her clients. Meanwhile as a mom of two boys, she understands her clients’ needs and truly enjoys helping families make their dreams come true.
Sonia Anguiano | 3rd Party Representative/Patient Coordinator
With over 20 years of experience in the medical administration, Sonia is excellent at coordinating the needs of our domestic and international intended parents from the time an egg donor and/or surrogate mother have been selected until confirmation of pregnancy and/or delivery. She is excited to be a part of helping people come together and bring a new life into the world. As a dedicated mom herself, Sonia has a big heart and loves the gratitude that comes with helping others complete their families.
Yang Jiao | 3rd Party Representative/Patient Coordinator
Yang started her journey with Western Fertility Institute in 2017. She holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health from San Diego State University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Medicine from Peking University. Her medical background assists her in coordinating clients from all over the world and helping them understand the process. Yang is loving, passionate and known for being a problem solver. She finds great meaning in her work by helping others complete their family dreams.
Rachel Lee | 3rd Party Representative/Bilingual Coordinator
Rachel was born in China and came to the United States for College. She is a tremendous asset in our clinic, and frequently assists us with translation for our Chinese patients because she is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin. Rachel graduated from a program at UCLA where she studied International Business. After working in the fertility industry for nearly 2 years, she says she is fascinated by the miracles she sees every day. She also says she has a huge passion for helping to create new families.
Daniela Moncada | 3rd Party Representative/Patient Coordinator
Daniela is a graduate from University of California, Los Angeles with a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology. She is very excited to be a part of the Western Fertility family. It has always been her dream to do work which positively impacts the lives of others. Helping intended parents navigate the complex world of fertility brings joy to her life. Daniela is fluent in both English and Spanish, helping a lot of our international clients feel more familiar with the process. She believes this is an exciting time in their lives, filled with hopes and dreams that will soon become reality.
Corinna S. Guerzoni | Ph.D. Anthropologist, Researcher
Corinna S. Guerzoni has a Ph.D. in Cultural and Social Anthropology. Her doctoral thesis was focused on reproductive technologies, gay parenting and new family configurations. She has been Visiting Researcher at Women’s Studies Department at San Diego State University. |

Faun Johnson | Practice Administrator
Faun has over 22 years’ experience in woman’s health. She takes pride in the successful outcome of each patient’s journey and guides the patients through the often-difficult financial aspects of treatment. Faun believes keeping our clinic running smoothly and effectively is key to a positive patient experience.

Bela joined the WFI family in 2018, with 6 years of customer service experience. She strives to ensure compassion and understanding through each individual’s journey to parenthood. She is devoted to being on the front lines answering phones and greeting patients as well as providing efficient translation between a patient’s need and their point of contact. Bela truly prides herself in being dedicated to exceed your overall expectations of your experience at Western Fertility Institute.
Sara Hernandez | Surrogate and Egg Donor Liaison/Marketing Assistant
Sara currently works with all candidates that express their desire to become an egg donor. She has 10 years of previous experience as an egg donor and surrogate herself. She is zealous about helping our egg donors have the best experience possible since her own experiences have been highly rewarding. Sara is very knowledgeable about the process and her guidance is a valuable asset to our company.
